Iraq

As the flowers bloom,
And the breeze teases the branches
The river runs red,
And shouts break the silence.
While the children play
And the snipers watch,
Singing turns to screaming.
Thrown baseballs and footballs
Turn to grenades as they grow older.
Carefree young adults
Now mentally scarred,
Physically broken.
And for what?
The freedom of a people ungrateful.
Dying not for our country,
As we mourn a  lost childhood
Killed in the war.

Red and Gold

Dawn breaks
Red and gold
Birds sing
Crickets chirp
Everything seems fine on the surface
But bombs detonate in the distance
As smoke rises from the dry forests
Sparks burn up entire fields
Leaving people to starve
While those who set bombs laugh
Yet we remain ignorant of the torture
Of the pain of the suffering
Deaf to their screams
What has the world come to
No one seems to care about others
As long as they’re alive to witness
The next red and gold sunrise

Homeless Hope

While the homeless starve
The others eat like kings each night.
While the 3rd world dies
We waste our time
In front of the TV.
Well why don’t you help?
Is that flat screen more important
Than the life of the neglected?
You can play your Xbox
Or build houses for the needing
But you play your war games.
Well the world already has enough destruction
And yet nothing is done.
World leaders turn away.
It’s becoming an epidemic
Or a global holocaust
Where the general population
Are Hitler’s Nazis,
Or a pathogen that slowly eats away life as it should be.
Freedom for everyone is just a fantasy
Nursed by those who die at our hands.
Well we’re all murderers now,
Killing the innocent
While those who should die
Thrive on watching the others in pain.

Childhood's Demise

Do we live in a planet or a machine?
The word is contained inside a screen.
No one can keep a secret because everything is online,
Friendship has been redefined.
But can you count your friends
By the information that you send?
How did we end up like this,
All our personal information in an online abyss.
Does anyone remember what preexists
The world of video chats,
Fail Blog and LOL cats?
Do you remember when outer space
Was more interesting than Facebook and Myspace?
Children ran home to play
Outside with their neighbors all day.
Now they sit in front of the computer,
Eyes glazed over in a hypnotized stupor.
Can we go back to the fun of the past,
Save their minds, make childhood last?

McDonalds Nation

French fries
Grease and soda
Hot dogs and chips
While the tv plays
Our technology does the work
While we lounge in a chair
Bottle of beer open
Fatty sandwich half eaten
Real games replaced by a remote control
Through the internet we scroll
No one even walks outside for simple tasks
The dog walks herself
Inside an invisible fence
News and mail come online
Cloths get out in the dryer, not the sun
Pizza Hut box in the corner
KFC on the floor
What's happened to us
It's like the fast food is waging war
On our bodies and winning

The Price of Freedom

Their songs cry out let freedom ring
But the chains that hold us down sing
A song of misery, contempt, and slaves
A song that will play until we reach our graves

The ones in charge sing songs upbeat
While the people below rock out to defeat
But underground societies refuse to stop
Until the cult comes out on top

War cries and drums sound
Fire trucks gather round
As the American flags burn to the ground

The cults cry victory
The underground societies plant a new flag
One that will truly bring freedom and peace
While the old leaders are carried away in black bags

The chains have fallen from our wrists
But the cult still persists
Fighting a war on humanity
A war never won quietly
